本书是关于研究生英语论文写作研究的专著。基于作者在新西兰奥克兰大学所作的博士论文改编而成。首先回顾相关研究,发现在使用英语作为第二语言进行学位论文撰写的过程中,相比于母语者,二语学习者经历了更多的困难,而这些困难多与体裁知识不足有关。已有研究多从语言社会化(language socialization)角度,用访谈等定性研究方法,了解二语论文写作者的困难。较少有研究从对比体裁分析角度,从文本本身出发,了解不同语言社群(community),特别是中英学术群体学位论文写作习俗的差异,以及社群差异对个体二语学习者学位论文写作的影响(individual differences)。
